Update on UKCA and CE

As many of you may have spotted, the UK Government has recently postponed the application of compulsory UKCA marking to goods intended for supply within the UK market. In terms of how this may affect the yachting market, we contacted Alasdair Reay of HPI Verification Services, the approved certifying body for UKCA and CE for the UK. We asked the simple question of how the postponement would affect:-

  1. Supply of new boats (built to CE conformity).
  2. Import of used boats (already carrying CE conformity).

Alasdair very kindly replied to confirm:-

Yes and yes. Basically, a (valid) CE mark is an acceptable means of showing compliance with the UK regs until 2025. No hairs need be split. Thereafter, until 1/1/2028, the CE mark is still an acceptable means but only if the approval was given before 2025.
