Responsible to: Chief Executive


Working with: CEO and all other members of YBDSA staff and members


Terms: Full-time – 35 hours per week permanent (13 week probationary period)


Salary: £20- £22,000 per annum (aae)


Pension: contributory by YBDSA. Option for staff member to make own additional contribution


Medical Insurance: Optional. Details will be provided of the current scheme provision


Travel: Mileage at 45p/mile will be paid for business use

GENERAL:


We represent 2 professional membership associations – the Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents and the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association – under the over-arching association of the Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association. Each has approx 175 members.


We are looking for a team player – someone who will get involved with our work to expand the training provision to our members and help us to enhance the public perception of yacht brokers, designers and surveyors. The applicant will have GCSE’s in English and Maths as a minimum. This is a new position within the Association.

PURPOSE:

  • To extend and expand the range of training opportunities for current members of the associations and for those interested in becoming members
  • To follow-up non-member attendees on courses regarding membership, as appropriate

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work with our training partners to support the development and delivery of a training qualifications framework
  • To work with committee members and staff to source training opportunities and venues and arrange events as required
  • To assist with marketing events working with the PR Consultant
  • To assist with maintaining the smooth running of the organisations

TASKS:

  • To liaise with other staff regarding marketing, circulation of information and fees for events
  • Maintain and expand the existing range of trainings offered by the Associations – conferences, training days (practical and theoretical) and visits including expanding the range of events available regionally in an annual, rolling programme
  • To liaise with our marine partners to ensure training requirements are fulfilled as far as possible to enable members to develop within the qualifications framework
  • To assist at boat shows on the association stand (Seawork and Southampton) and attend the AGM with the staff team
  • To assist with Social Media and information for the websites
  • To contact non-members who attend events to encourage them to join, eg following the Professional Yacht Brokerage course

ACTIVITIES:

  • Maintain an on-going programme of in-house training events
  • Work with the YBDSA Administrator to research and book venues, making appropriate arrangements for equipment, budgeting, speakers, promulgation of information, etc.
  • Keep the website up to date with current events and provide new material as necessary to ensure it provides clear information for members and to the general public
  • Ensure the PR consultant is kept up to date with developments so any PR opportunities are maximised
  • Attend boat shows, conferences, AGM and other training events as required
  • Provide up-dates for the bi-monthly Association newsletter
  • Work with the CEO to provide a report for the AGM on the year’s training activities
  • Liaise with the training sub-groups of ABYA and YDSA
  • Occasional support of the CEO and other staff and activities as needed

SKILLS:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows on which the Association Client Relationship Management system is based (training will be provided)
  • Good telephone manner
