The organization’s income is derived from a variety of sources including the certification of small commercial vessels. The successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to efficiently direct, focus and streamline the department’s activities while applying a respectful management style.
The business unit is busy and ambitious for growth, and the innovation and implementation of improved business systems and practices will be crucial to the department’s continuing success.
Accuracy, productivity, timely internal and external communications and the confident provision of unambiguous expert advice to staff, clients and other stakeholders are central to the role.
Professional and regular liaison with an elected committee of senior surveyors, the MCA and other certifying authorities and government agencies along with continual awareness of changes to legislation and applicable regulations are critical.
• Maritime technical or engineering qualifications
• Marine surveying or comparable experience
• Specific knowledge of MCA codes and vessel stability and safety
• History of working with similar industry codes and inspections
• Understanding of auditing practices
• Sound human, departmental and business resource management
• First-class communication and self-presentation
• Modern IT skills
