Description

Overview

Wishanger II is a highly specified Oyster 62 that has been thoughtfully maintained, extensively upgraded and purposefully equipped for serious bluewater cruising. Built by Southampton Yacht Services in 2002 to a Rob Humphreys design, she combines Oyster’s renowned build quality with a proven long-range cruising pedigree, including successful participation in the World ARC Round the World Rally 2016-2017.

Commissioned for an experienced owner and featuring a uniquely extended aft deck and counter transom, Wishanger II offers a rare combination of offshore capability, luxurious accommodation and manageable short-handed sailing. Her cutter rig, hydraulic furling headsails, electric winches and extensive systems upgrades make her ideally suited to a cruising couple or family looking to undertake extended passage making in comfort and confidence.

Throughout her life, Wishanger II has benefited from continual investment, including three significant refit periods, upgraded electronics, renewable power generation systems, heating and air conditioning, water maker installation and numerous enhancements designed to support long-term self-sufficient cruising. The result is an Oyster 62 that remains capable, comfortable and ready for further adventures.

Design & Performance

Designed by Rob Humphreys and Oyster Design Group, the Oyster 62 blends powerful offshore performance withreassuring heavy-displacement comfort. Her long fin keel, skeg-hung rudder and cutter rig configuration provideexcellent directional stability, balanced handling and confidence-inspiring passagemaking characteristics.

The cutter rig is configured for efficient short-handed sailing, with hydraulic furling systems for both yankee andstaysail, electric winches and comprehensive sail handling systems throughout. The result is a yacht that remainsremarkably manageable despite her size.

A specially commissioned extended aft deck further enhances deck space and liveability while contributing to the yacht’s distinctive profile.

Ownership, Cruising History & Maintenance

Wishanger II has been maintained and upgraded to a notably high standard throughout her ownership. She completed the World ARC Round the World Rally in 2016-2017, demonstrating both the yacht’s capability and the owner’s commitment to maintaining her for serious offshore use.

Significant investment includes:

Three major refit programmes

Hull epoxy coated from new as a preventative measure

Mast repainted in 2017

Standing rigging replaced in 2016

Running rigging renewed in 2016

Black coachroof window treatment creating later Oyster G2 styling

Frigoboat refrigeration and freezer systems renewed in 2023

Generator serviced and maintained

Watermaker membranes renewed

Lifted and serviced with new anodes in April 2025

The yacht presents as a vessel that has been upgraded for continued use rather than prepared solely for sale.

Broker’s Comments

The Oyster 62 has long been regarded as one of Oyster’s most successful bluewater designs, offering exceptional offshore capability while remaining manageable for short-handed sailing. Wishanger II is a particularly impressive example. What immediately stands out is the level of thought and investment that has gone into the yacht over many years. Rather than simply maintaining the vessel, her owner has continually refined and upgraded her for extended cruising. From renewable energy systems and satellite communications to heating, air conditioning and water making capability, every aspect of the yacht reflects practical experience gained from serious offshore use. The accommodation is equally impressive. Light, spacious and beautifully finished in classic Oyster teak joinery, the interior offers comfortable living space for extended periods aboard, whether cruising as a couple or hosting family and guests. For buyers seeking a proven world-capable yacht with a comprehensive specification and a documented history ofoffshore cruising, Wishanger II presents an exceptional opportunity.
